We are delighted to announce that Professor Manjul Bhargava, Fields Medallist and Professor of Mathematics at Princeton University, has agreed to serve as Interim Director of LMSI with effect from 1 July 2026.

Professor Bhargava has been associated with the Lodha Foundation since its inception and continues to serve on its Board. In particular, he has been closely involved with LMSI from the outset, helping shape the Institute’s early academic direction and global engagement. Recognized globally as one of the foremost mathematicians of our times, his long engagement with the international mathematical community makes him uniquely positioned to lead LMSI into its next phase - carrying it to new heights of mathematical excellence.

As LMSI now turns to building a strong resident faculty, expanding its postdoctoral programs, and developing outstanding long-term institutional infrastructure, Professor Bhargava’s leadership will further strengthen the Institute’s mission of establishing a world-class centre for mathematical research in India.

We are deeply grateful to Professor Bhargava for accepting this responsibility, and we look forward to the years ahead.
