Announcement
The Lodha Mathematical Sciences Institute (LMSI) and Professor Kumar Murty have jointly agreed that Professor Murty will complete his term as Founding Director of LMSI on 30 June 2026 and return full-time to his research programme.
LMSI is deeply grateful to Professor Murty for his intellectual leadership and service in helping establish the Institute during its formative phase. Drawing upon his extensive academic and administrative experience, Professor Murty played an important role in laying the foundations of LMSI and in helping shape its early academic programmes, governance structures, and growing international visibility.
Starting from scratch, LMSI became operational in a very short time with a range of symposia, conferences, workshops and public lectures, and most notably, two semester-long thematic programmes which attracted 137 participants from over 15 countries. All of these programmes fostered significant research collaborations and ongoing scholarly works.
Professor Murty said:
“I am proud of what we have collectively accomplished during the first year of LMSI. The Institute’s early progress was made possible by the support of the mathematical community, the dedication of the administrative team, the guidance of the Scientific Advisory Panel, and the commitment of the Lodha Foundation to building a world-class research institution in India. While I look forward to returning full-time to my own research, I will continue to follow the Institute’s progress with great interest and optimism as it advances towards its long-term vision.”
A structured transition process is underway under the guidance of the Institute’s leadership and governing bodies to ensure continuity of all academic and administrative activities.
The Institute remains firmly committed to its mission of building a globally respected centre for excellence in the mathematical sciences and looks forward to continued engagement and support from the wider mathematical community.
A further announcement regarding the Institute’s next phase of academic leadership will be made shortly.
